GREENBROOK ASSOCIATION
Location and History
The Greenbrook Association is a
Bushcare group formed in 1983. It operated initially in
Hickey Park, Stafford. The group moved upstream to a large area of
derelict land opposite the Stafford Tannery site in 1983, between
Mornington St and Blandford St. The area was subsequently named
Grange Forest Park.
Grange Forest Park is
located south-west of the Brook where it winds behind the
Stafford City Shopping Centre. It lies somewhat equidistant
between Stafford, Grange and Alderley communities. (UBD Ref 139 H8)
A separate page shows the early progress
of the Association in the Park in the 1980s.
Recollections of a local resident, Robert Dunlop, who was a youngster growing up in the Grange in the 1930s, may be viewed as a 21 KB MS Word document.
About the Group
The Greenbrook
Association has the objective to establish a plant community at
Grange Forest Park which:
-
is typical of that
which may have existed along Kedron Brook before
European settlement, and
-
which supports as
much native wildlife as possible, especially those species that are
facing increasing difficulty living in the suburbs.
With the passing of time,
the second objective has become increasingly important, in that many
species which were once common in the surrounding suburbs are now found
only in the park.
The group works under the broad
umbrella of a shared concern by its members for the quality of our
natural environment. There are no membership
fees, no office-bearers and no regular meetings apart from working bees.
Group Contact
The group works
(generally) every 3rd Sunday morning between 8.30am and 11.30am,
meeting at the Blandford St entrance to Grange Forest Park. The billy
is boiled at 10am. Every member is reminded by email/telephone about
one week before a working bee.
