SUMMARY:Cane Toad Bust at Kalinga Park
DESCRIPTION:Join Kedron Brook Catchment Branch for a community Cane Toad Bust! Help protect our native wildlife by reducing invasive cane toad numbers in this key habitat along Kedron Brook. \n ages welcome (kids  adults) – no experience needed! This is a fun\, hands-on citizen science activity to make a real local difference. Part of ongoing efforts of Watergum’s Cane Toad Challenge. No registration – just turn up! \nMeet at Kalinga Park at 6:45am for an introduction and safety talk to be ready for 7:00pm – 8:00pm busting! \nWhat to bring/wear: \n\nTorch or headlamp (essential for spotting toads in dark!)\nEnclosed\, comfortable shoes (grass/uneven ground near brook)\nLong pants and sleeves for protection\nDisposable gloves (for safe handling)\nWater bottle\nOptional extras include insect repellent.\n\nWe will supply: \n\nBucket\, bag\, or container for collected toads\nGloves (for safe handling).\n\nImportant safety notes \nCane toads are toxic so it is important to wear gloves when undertaking this activity. Avoid touching face and eyes and wash hands afterwards. We will follow humane RSPCA guidelines for collection and euthanasia (stepped hypothermia – fridge then freezer). \nThis activity is a great chance to help native frogs\, birds and native animals potentially impacted by cane toad. Past busts here have removed hundreds of toads! DESCRIPTION:Monthly Bird Observation Walk – Kalinga Park to Keith Bowen Wetlands \n\nJoin keen twitchers of Kedron Brook Catchment Branch in their monthly bird observation walk at Kalinga Park to Keith Bowden Wetlands. We expect to walk 2 hours depending on bird sightings and group pace.\n\nMeet in car park at entrance to Kalinga Park\, off Park Avenue. Follow walkways to Keith Boden Wetlands. Return to Kalinga Park and follow north bank walkway down to bike/walkway bridge near Toombul Terrace. Back to cars.\n\nWe’ll go ahead in light rain so bring a raincoat if forecast is wet. Check event page morning of for any cancellations.\n\nWhat to bring:– enclosed\, comfortable shoes (path can be uneven\, grassy or muddy near wetlands).– sun-safe clothing (hat\, sunglasses\, long sleeves/pants).– bring your own binoculars if you have them (highly recommended for spotting birds!).– water bottle and snacks.– optional extras include camera/phone for photos\, notebook for recording sightings\, insect repellent\, sunscreen.\n\nEasy-moderate flat walk. Loop back to cars.\n\n levels welcome—beginners to experienced birders! No registration needed\, just turn up ready to spot some birds.\n\nWhat to bring/wear:– Enclosed\, comfortable shoes (paths can be grassy\, uneven\, or muddy near creek)– Sun-safe clothing (hat\, sunglasses\, sunscreen\, lightweight long sleeves/pants if preferred)– Your own binoculars (essential—share if you have extras!)– Water bottle and snacks– Optional extras to bring camera/phone for photos\, insect repellent (creek mozzies!)\, light rain jacket (we go ahead in light rain).\n\nEasy to moderate flat walk along parkland\, paths and creek-side habitats. Great for bush birds\, honeyeaters\, wrens and more in this lovely forested tributary area.
