Our successful program – "Down at Your Local Creek" has been especially prepared for upper primary students in schools in the catchment of Kedron Brook.
The Kedron Brook Catchment Branch of the Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland has prepared an educational program on catchments and ecological monitoring. The program is tailored to schools within the water catchment of Kedron Brook and it was made available to schools in 2007. An experienced educator and a biologist facilitate the two hour hands-on environmental science program.
A special flyer (204 KB pdf file) describes the program. This information is being made available to teachers in those schools within the Kedron Brook catchment that may be interested in the program during 2008. Since not all schools may be able to take advantage of this offer, parents or other interested persons should keep in touch with their school via school notices, newsletters or school staff so as to be able to take advantage if the program becomes available.
By way of background, our organisation has been working in the Kedron Brook catchment since 2001 and is affiliated with the Brisbane Catchments Program and bush care initiative of the Brisbane City Council. Various past and present members of our organisation have worked on an ‘ad hoc’ basis with a number of schools in the catchment. Through this proven program, we are aiming to provide a quality learning experience that is locally relevant and interesting to students in a structured and consistent way.
If you have any queries regarding the program please contact our Catchment Coordinator Leslie Collins on 3407-0836. We look forward to working with you in 2008.
