HABITAT BRISBANE DAY - 18 May 2008
Over forty Habitat Brisbane bushcare groups will be holding working bees and activities across Brisbane from 9 am until 11am on Sunday, 18 May. At this point in time, we have at least five of our own groups working on the same one day along Kedron Brook. Each group will be enjoying all the benefits of the special publicity, added promotions and activity support from the staff and resources of Brisbane City Council.
The following information was based upon information from the Brisbane City Council website page (now unavailable), supplemented by our local group leaders and their Coordinators.
Volunteers from all walks of life will be most welcome to visit the group sites they find most suitable and will find out how Habitat Brisbane Groups are making a real difference to the improvement of our catchment's environmental values, biodiversity of flora and wildlife, and our recreational assets.
Families will find a visit to these sites interesting, with their children readily involved and learning more about nature. Some of these venues (e.g. Zion Hill with the Gecko Wildlife Presentations activity) have other attractions, displays and promotions between 9:00 am and 11 am.
To summarise, everyone should come and visit their local group event to:
Volunteer helping with revegetation at Lutwyche
- meet their neighbourhood bushcarers
- find out what it’s like to be a Habitat Brisbane volunteer
- hear about their site and restoration stories
- learn about local wildlife and plants
- participate in their activities
- win great prizes
- express their interest in assisting the group
Habitat Brisbane Day Competitions (to be conducted at each selected Habitat Group site 18 May ):
To win a copy of Steve Parish’s stunning new book Wild Habitats ($69.95 value), anyone can complete a single entry form at their local group event to go into the draw. One book prize drawn at each individual group site, to be drawn at 11am of that day. See next paragraph for full conditions.
Kids can separately win one only of the ten sets of Steve Parish’s Backyard Kids series (retail value$50). These are based upon one entry per child, under 12 years of age (and other conditions as follows). Prior to these activities on 18 May, any such child can download the colouring-in picture (look for the cockatoo), add their colours and hand it in at any of these local events to go into the draw. Follow this link to get more details of these two separate competitions, and the full terms of reference and conditions.
