Established in July 1998, Osborne Road Bushcare Group is dedicated to preservation and restoration of natural environment at Pullen Road Park, Osborne Road, Mitchelton. The group is part of Brisbane City Council Habitat Brisbane Program and works on a bushcare site containing pre-clearing Regional Ecosystem 12.3.11 Eucalyptus tereticornis +/- Eucalyptus siderophloia, Corymbia intermedia open forest on alluvial plains usually near coast (Of Concern) and 12.11.5 Corymbia citriodora subsp. variegata woodland to open forest +/- Eucalyptus siderophloia/E. crebra, E. carnea, E. acmenoides, E. propinqua on metamorphics +/- interbedded volcanics (Least Concern). The site includes sections of mapped koala habitat area (core) and high value regrowth.
The group has steadily replaced weed species like Tecoma (yellow jacaranda), Singapore Daisy, Madeira vine, and Glycine appropriate local plants. At least 3,500 plants, ranging from grasses to trees, have been planted to try and recreate lost habitat. Weeping lillypilly (Waterhousia floribunda) is naturally regenerating in stream bed.
Participation of volunteers has come from areas including Everton Park Saturday Cub Scouts, students at Grovely TAFE, Conservation Volunteers Australia, Greening Australia, and local residents.
Fauna sightings include kingfishers, swallows, wrens, honeyeaters, pheasant coucals, carpet snakes, bandicoots, and even a lone Rufous Night Heron in creek bed. Kedron Brook Catchment Branch monthly bird walks take place through this bushcare site on first Sunday of May each year.
