KBCB – September Monthly Bird Walk

On a cool, overcast morning, four community members enjoyed a delightful bird walk through Maureen Lawrence Park and Wahminda Park. Despite cloudy skies, conditions were ideal for spotting a diverse range of bird species, a total of 34 species observed or heard during walk.

  • Brown Thornbill: 1
  • Striated Pardalote: 8 (all heard)
  • Lewin’s Honeyeater: 12
  • Noisy Miner: 30
  • Scarlet Honeyeater: 12 (all heard)
  • Blue-faced Honeyeater: 8
  • Noisy Friarbird: 3
  • Eastern Whipbird: 6 (three seen)
  • Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike: Heard
  • Little Shrike-thrush: 1
  • Australasian Figbird: Heard

Highlights

The walk was a fantastic opportunity to observe a variety of birdlife, highlights including vibrant Rainbow Lorikeets (20 spotted) and abundant Noisy Miners (30 observed). The melodic calls of Scarlet Honeyeater and Striated Pardalote filled air, while sight of Australian King-Parrots and Pale-headed Rosellas added bursts of color to morning. The group also enjoyed spotting Eastern Whipbirds and White-browed Scrubwrens, some individuals clearly visible during walk.

The bird walk was a great success, offering participants a chance to connect nature and appreciate diverse bird life in Kedron Brook catchment area. We look forward to more walks and continued exploration of our local ecosystems!
